In the late 1960s, two Castello pipe makers, Guiseppe Ascorti and Luigi Radice, left to found their own workshop, Caminetto. Their skilled craftsmanship grew Caminetto into one of the most popular marques of the 1970s and beyond. This hearty bent Billiard from Ascorti is a more plump interpretation of the classic shape. The bowl's walls curve upward from a rounded heel and gently taper toward a smooth rim, creating a Brandy-like figure that fills the hand comfortably. Out back, a well-bent shank-and-stem arrangement pairs to the bowl for a comfortable jaw-hanging posture. Dressing the stummel is Ascorti's elusive Tredici sandblasted finish, which unveils dense bands of cross grain striating the left flank in remarkably consistent streaks.
