Erik Nørding is among the world's most prolific and long-standing pipe makers, with a tenure exceeding 60 years. Moreover, he's considered a pioneer of the Danish Fancy Freehand design style, and his factory is responsible for one of the most recognizable aesthetics in all of pipe making. Popularized throughout the 1970s and '80s, the Danish Fancy Freehand style is a maximalist aesthetic that eschews traditional shaping standards in favor of evocative and highly stylized forms, often making use of ridgelines, fluting channels, and briar plateau. Nørding's portfolio is saturated with individual, avant-garde Freehands in an array of equally distinctive finishes, but the Danish workshop also produces more classically inspired designs, as seen across the Compass, Erik the Red, and Valhalla series — as well as the highly collectible Hunting Pipe line, which features a new shape each year.

The first model from 2019 is a short stubby quarter bend pipe with a low and wide cognac shape bowl and a short shank.

The idea with our “Nose Warmers” is to make a line of smaller pipes minded for the pipes smoker that prefers the shorter but still traditional Danish handmade shapes.
We will be producing different models in different finishes, often Rustic and Sandblasted (full or partly) and a full Smooth version.
The material for the rings will typically be Palm-wood and large nuts and seeds from tropical plants.
The Nose Warmer pipes are marked with 2 digits. The first indicates the model design 1, 2 etc. and the second number indicates our rating of the grain in the briar and the overall pipe in general – starting from 1 and goes to 3, with “3” being the best.
